3. Research Methodology Within the NES 2012 Codebook, there are three questions I intend to examine. This first is labeled PRESVOTE2012_X in which the respondent specifies whether they voted for Obama, Romney, or other. There is a 6.2% difference between males that voted for Obama and females that voted for Obama, which is significant enough to observe a deviance but not to generalize all men and women, as there may be outliers. Through the interactive oral, my understanding of Neruda’s work has improved, particularly the recurring theme of surrealism. This is seen through his love poems, for example, through â€Å"so close that your hand upon my chest is mine†, Neruda elevates a simple hand gesture into a surreal image of closeness between two lovers, so close that they do not exist as separate entities but rather they exist together. Furthermore, the idea of how Neruda breaks free from conventional poetry was also discussed during the oral. In â€Å"Leaning into the Evenings†, natural images are not employed conventionally. In conventional love poetry, the beauty of nature is praised for its images of light, however in Neruda’s poem, there is a certain sense of darkness present, â€Å"you guard only darkness†. We further discussed how Neruda makes himself a large part of his love poetry. In â€Å"The Potter†, he portrays himself as literally shaping the female into who she is, through natural images. This sense of authority and control is rather unnerving, especially in a love poem where there is normally an elevation of the object of desire. Here, Neruda seems to elevate himself through his control of the woman’s body. The image of him molding and creating a person is rather surreal as well. I realize now that it is also through his use of surreal images that enables Neruda to further break free from conventions. We also discussed the social aspects present in his poetry, Neruda transitioned from writing about the self, to becoming to voice of the people. This is seen in Part B of the poems, particularly in â€Å"The Great Tablecloth† which showcased his vision for the future that included socioeconomic equality for all classes. Furthermore, this idea made me reflect on how his travels abroad also influenced his social beliefs. When Neruda traveled to Asia, he traveled in poverty; I feel that his experience could have influenced the idea of social inequality in poems like â€Å"The Great Tablecloth†. The interactive oral helped me to better reflect on how Neruda as a poet, breaks free from conventions as well as the various aspects involved in his poetry that may have been influenced by his experiences.

They were the next door neighbor who had a crazy, wonderful idea that would change America and its culture. The fast food industry has become a national icon of the American culture that is known throughout the world. The reason it has become widely known can be narrowed down to one corporation, the McDonalds Corpora tion. Over the years its mass marketing techniques have been able to makes its golden arches recognized by kids all over the world and even more so in the U.S. â€Å"A survey of American school children found that 96 percent could identify Ronald McDonald. The way the company has been able to become acknowledged by so many people, both adult and children, is by advertising. The narrator of this story does not reveal why such a conflict exists other than to say someone has impugned his honor. Poe makes use of irony, symbolism among other linguistics means to tell a revenge story under Montresor’s, the murderer, view and ideas. Even knowing the narrator is not reliable and he probably is mad, the reader stands on his side from the beginning to the end of the conflict. This article will try to analyze the tools used by Poe to create this short story. The Style of Poe in â€Å"The cask of amontillado† Strengthening readers’ comprehension of his writing is also a key function of the imagery Poe uses. The variety of stylistic devices used by Poe to create the atmosphere of horror and terror includes the setting, one of the things the author uses to paint a dark and gloomy picture in the reader’s mind. For example: as de scribed by him in the beginning of the short story â€Å"It was about dusk, one evening during the supreme madness of the carnival seasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦Ã¢â‚¬  or like in this paragraph: â€Å"At the most remote end of the crypt there appeared another less spacious. Imagery in Poe’s style of writing clearly involves readers in the story, and his use of complex vocabulary ensures that readers understand his themes and implications. The use of symbolism is what makes Poe’s short story even more interesting. Symbolism, according to the The Dictionary of Literary Terms, is an object, person, idea, etc. used in a literary work, film, etc., to stand for or suggest something else with which it is associated either explicitly or in some more subtle way. It may not be clear for some readers, but in â€Å"The Cask of Amontillado† the fight between two social class conflict and the aristocratic social codes is very well pictured. Montresor meets Fortunato â€Å"as if by chance† when it is clear that Montresor already of Fortunato’s attendance during the Carnival celebration at a banquet. When Montresor leads the intoxicated Fortunato into the blind wall in the subterranean passages of Montresorâ€℠¢s family grave and takes him prisoner, he already has mortar and trowel prepared for walling up his victim.
